Jessica Hagen Fine Art + Design is pleased to announce the opening of Jessica Brilli’s first solo exhibition with the gallery on May 20, 2023, from 5:00- 7:00pm. The show features all new work by the artist, including paintings and collages. Brilli’s most recent body of work was inspired by 35mm Kodachrome slides and generations-old photographs that were gathered from locations across the United States. Through her experience of painting and sharing these photos, she has found that there is something inherent in them that speaks to many Americans, whether it be a photo taken at a pool party in 1965 or of someone’s mother standing in front of the family car—we insert our own lives into these scenes from the past. Jessica Brilli views thousands of slides and photos to find the pictures that move her emotionally. She is constantly on the hunt for photos that mirror scenes from her childhood, or that she shares a connection to through personal or familial experience. Brilli earned her BFA in painting at the University of Rhode Island and received a certificate in graphic design from the Massachusetts College of Art and Design in Boston, MA. Most recently Jessica Brilli was named a 2021 Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grantee. The show will be on display through June 18, 2023.

Jessica Hagen Fine Art + Design was founded in 2005 and features contemporary art including painting, sculpture, photography, ceramics, textiles, and jewelry. Located in the historic Point section of Newport, the gallery’s hours are Wednesday through Saturday 11:00- 5:00 and Sunday 12:00-5:00. Monday and Tuesday, the gallery is open by appointment.
